About The Doherty Foundation
The Doherty Foundation for Social and Civic Well-Being is a nonprofit foundation with a mission to increase the capacity of therapists and lay people to solve relational and social problems.
We are an “operating foundation”, developing and funding our own projects, rather than a “grant making” foundation that solicits and funds grant proposals.
The foundation is funded by William Doherty, Ph.D. The Chief Executive Officer is his daughter Elizabeth Doherty Thomas, M.S. Its programming is offered free of charge.
William Doherty, Ph.D.
The foundation’s areas of focus are based on the professional work of Bill Doherty. For over 40 years, Bill has been an innovative leader in the fields of family studies and family therapy. Several areas of this expertise, such as medical family therapy and Discernment Counseling for couples on the brink of divorce, have become well-established in the field. He created this foundation to ensure the spread of other innovations that he believes can benefit from the push and visibility of a foundation.
